North German Science Prize for Oldenburg-Hamburg collaboration

Two clusters of excellence are jointly investigating one of biology’s greatest mysteries: how does the magnetic sense of migratory birds work at the atomic level? The researchers were awarded the North German Science Prize for establishing this co-operation.

The lead researchers, Prof. Dr Henry Chapman from the University of Hamburg, and Prof. Dr Henrik Mouritsen and Prof. Dr Ilia Solov’yov from Oldenburg, were recently awarded the North German Science Prize, worth 83,000 euros, in the ‘Planned Research Project’ category. The award, presented by the North German Conference of Science Ministers, is conferred every two years in recognition of excellence in outstanding cross-regional research collaborations.
